Omniscope Views

Omniscope Views

Multiple synchronised filterable views of your data

Spreadsheets display a single view of dull rows and columns, at most 40-50 visible rows and about 10 legible columns depending on screen size. Omniscope currently provides 14 simultaneous views, all rich in summary visual information and interactivity. Click on the links below to learn more about each of the available views:

 | Table | Chart Pie | Bar | Graph | Tile | Pivot | Tree | Portal | Map | Venn | Web Details | DataPlayer |

Omniscope .IOM/.IOK files display as many views as your screen size will allow. Each view shows your data in innovative, highly-configurable visualisations that update simultaneously as you filter, including or excluding records (rows). Some views can provide overviews of hundreds of thousands (even millions) of rows of data. You can configure Omniscope files to display any number of tabbed Report Pages- each with multiple views focusing your readers' attention on different aspects of the data. Recipients of your files need only tab through their personalised slides, just like a presentation-only interactive. Using the Web View, related information and services available on the web can be linked to with the click of a mouse. Omniscope Professional DataPlayer Edition also includes the DataPlayer View, which enables anyone to configure interactive Flash DataPlayers for export to documents and web pages.

At any time, single or multiple Omniscope views, or even entire .IOK files with many Report Pages, can be printed (as single hard-copy sheets, PowerPoint slide packs or Adobe Acrobat .PDF documents) or exported to the clipboard and pasted into other documents as static images.

Table View

The Table View is a familiar, spreadsheet-like representation of your data, with each record (row) and field (column) visible for data entry, editing, sorting, aggregating and filtering. Displays colour-coded values with instant aggregation, sorting, and zooming views of embedded images. Columns (fields) can be hidden and the order set, and any number of sort criteria applied. Use the powerful set of View Tools to change the heights of the rows, display associated images, check for duplicates, expand or combine column values, specify formulae to generate calculated columns, display calculated statistics based on aggregations, etc.

Chart View

Innovative view that shows the structure and distribution of your data across all columns (fields), in either expanded or collapsed modes. Gain an overview of large data sets and spot anomalies or patterns across many columns and rows all in a single window. Excellent for 'scrubbing' data and calculating statistics by column.

Pie View

Familiar view used to display proportions in either category or numeric/date fields. with single or multiple (paned) display modes and some new twists, including animated displays to aid legibility. Commonly used in report pages to show the composition of aggregates. Can be 'paned' vertically, horizontally or both to show multiple pies in the same view.

Bar View

Displays bars stacked vertically or horizontally, in single or multiple (paned) configurations, mixing positive and negative values and with many other powerful options. Used in most reports for comparing magnitudes and showing the composition of aggregates.

Graph View

Creates highly-customisable scatter plots with options for colouring and sizing of markers and using marker aggregation to display record density. Automatically calculates correlations to find trends. Used to spot anomalies and for spatial selections of plotted data.

Tile View

Used as a simple image browser or to display 'heat maps' (or 'tree maps'), each tile represents a record (row) and shows its characteristics along multiple dimensions using size, order, colour and grouping. Also used to make mosaics of associated images to facilitate image-based search and selection, product catalogues, etc.

Pivot View

Aggregates record data by two fields, applying various functions (record count, sum, mean, etc.) at the intersection of the visible fields. Fields are easily selected and pivot tables can be sorted both ways. There is an option to display hover plots showing breakdowns of values in specific cells. Widely used in both analysis and reporting.

Tree View

Presents a hierarchical view of your data. You can change the structure of your hierarchy at any time by re-ordering the fields with your mouse. Useful for display and navigation of both pure hierarchies (like organisation charts and family trees), and comparative hierarchies present in the structure of most data sets

Portal View

A familiar web-style interface allowing easy searching and browsing of data using coloured, text-based, dynamic field breakdowns. The Portal View displays categories as a defined number of discrete text values (from largest in terms of record count down to smallest). Selecting one or more categories and performing Moves and Keeps reveals increasingly refined filter possibilities.  Generally used in conjunction with other views to provide a text-based selection menu and provide running updates on the range of values remaining in the filtered data set.

Map View

Omniscope allows you to use both online mapping services, such as Google Maps, and embedded vector maps that work offline. Users can change from one zooming map background to the other at any time. Omniscope comes with a wide selection of embedded vector maps (world, county or city level) which can be added into any file. Coordinates are automatically plotted on maps or scanned images, such as floor plans.  Markers can be manually placed and coordinates captured to the data set. The Map View allows easy zooming, selection and editing. For more information on freely available maps and how to use them, please visit our Maps Library.

Venn View

New in 2.4, the Venn View enables you to pre-define up to 5 different subsets of the data as Named Queries, then overlay some or all of these different filtered sub-sets in the classic Venn diagram.  Identify, select and drill down on intersections of interest quickly and comprehensively.

Web View

Omniscope is a hybrid desktop/web client and is therefore totally web-aware. Report pages can combine local data, image and maps contained in the .IOK file with related web content.  If your users are online, any web pages  or documents related to the data set can be displayed in one or more Omniscope internal Web Views (plus your default browser).  Any file page can contain one or more Web Views used to display web-based pages and services, images, adverts, etc. related to specific records and to display 'mash-ups' with online backdrops, such as Google Maps.

Details View

The Details View is the repository of all the information about a record in an .IOK data set, as well as a gateway to related web content through rich linking features. The view has flexible configuration options with branding, text formatting and the ability to display associated images.  It can also be used as a editable form for data entry and correction. Whenever just one record is selected, the highly-configurable  Details View (or a pop-up details window) displays the values for that record (row) and images and links as configured.

DataPlayer View

From version 2.4, all Omniscope Pro DataPlayer and Enterprise Editions will include a DataPlayer View. This new view is a workspace that allows anyone to create exportable Flash DataPlayers that can be inserted directly into documents and web pages. Adds a new dimension to your interactive data publishing options.
