Maps & CoordinatesMaps & CoordinatesIn this section you will find documentation and other resources to help you make the most of the geographic and other coordinate mapping capabilities of Omniscope. Freely-installable vector maps are available from the Maps Library. Note that any image, including street-level screenshots from online mapping services can be imported as an image and used as a map background in Omniscope. Use Google Earth to take the decimal longitude and latitude of the points in the lower left and upper right hand corners of the image, then use Omniscope's Map View: View Tools > Change map projection command to re-callibrate the image to decimal longitude and latitude for correct display on the image. Topics: Using Visokio Maps - an introductory tutorial covering opening maps, zooming in and out, showing or hiding map layers, using the Map Navigator mini-window, placing markers manually to generate coordinate data, selecting records and viewing details. Placing Markers - add map coordinates to your data using Omniscope by selecting records (rows) and manually placing markers on an open Map View using either free Visokio embedded vector maps, or the Google Maps online web service, or images imported as map backgrounds. Change Projections - map projections define how the designated (X,Y) coordinates in your data are displayed over images and maps embedded in Omniscope. Omniscope allows you to use refrence points to re-calibrate or re-define coordinate grids on any kind of map, photo or scanned image imported for use as a Map View background. Working with Google Maps - when connected to the Internet, data sets with suitable coordinates can be switched from the included vector maps (which work offline) to the Google Map overlay Map View (which only works when online). Working with Google Earth (experimental) - the free Google Earth application is an extremely useful resource for searching and refining global coordinates, and dynamically displaying points of interest. Omniscope can be used together with Google Earth to compile and publish useful and powerful geo-mapped/locational reference files. |
