Football (soccer) match example- Liverpool v. Birmingham City 2006
Any type of photo or scanned image can be used as map backdrops. The example below plots 1,311 notable events in a football (soccer) match, coloured by event type. Use the Filter Bar to select subsets of events by Minute, Team or Player (try typing player surnames such as 'Alonso', 'Crouch' and 'Gerrard' to see their plays in the game). Use your mouse to select an area of interest on the field (the other plays will disappear), then click Details to cycle through individual plays using the Next > and < Previous arrows. Click X to close the details window, and Reset to return to viewing all the highlights of the game. The high (low) light of this game was an own-goal by Liverpool in the 71st minute. To see it, tick Team Name: 'Liverpool' and Event Type: 'Goal'.

Football (soccer) statistics example
The example below summarises the outcome of corner kicks by three players for Chelsea over a season). The dots are coloured by outcome, possession won or lost, but you can change this using the Colouring drop-down to the right of the Details button. Use the Filter Bar to select a player (compare their effectiveness), or move the Minute slider to look at shorter time segments.
Use your mouse to select the most interesting field area (kicks landing outside the selected area will disappear), then click Details and cycle through the individual plays using the Next > and < Previous arrows. Click X to close the details window and Reset to view all the kicks again.
